Knowing the current river conditions is critical to a safe paddling trip. It will also help you determine how long your trip will take. Check the current levels before going out. Each route description has links to current conditions as well as suggestions for identifying levels that are neither too high or too low.
Generally, you won't want to paddle when the river is at or near flood stage. All rivers become dangerous and unpredictable at high water levels! As far as low water levels, this stretch of the Iowa rarely has levels too low for paddling but there could be places where you may have to drag your boat, depending on the size, weight and which side of the river you choose.
